Many parents of young athletes tend to be very involved. According to Shannon Turley, the sports performance coach for Stanford Football, the most important thing a parent can do is find your kid a great coach. Beyond that, Turley says, its the parent’s job to take a step back and let the coach do her own work. We often put our kids on sports teams so they’ll learn sportsmanship and team effort, but they’ll learn how to fend for themselves in the real world and learn from their coach most if parents leave space for their own growth process. Hear more of Turley’s advice for parents in the video above.
