Paramaguru Sharath Jois’s sudden passing in late 2024 was a tremendous loss.
He was a true Yoga Master, Guru, and beloved friend who inspired many thousands of students and spiritual seekers. His legacy will live on for generations to come, through his teachings, books, classes, and video tutorials that have brought Ashtanga to practitioners of all levels across the world.
Over the last few years, Sharathji was very focused on expanding the reach of Ashtanga to a wider audience so everyone can experience its profound benefits. As he wrote in June 2024:
“For many years I have been wanting to develop a practice that has the benefits of Ashtanga Yoga but is accessible to all, regardless of their age or ability, something that will help everyone to remain active, calm, and focused, and can be practiced at home.”
Sharathji called this new approach the Active Series.
He designed it for people who may not feel ready for a full Ashtanga practice but who can still benefit from so many of its positive aspects.
To spread the word, Sharathji created a new book that details the Active Series, along with a training program for certified SYC teachers so that this new series can ultimately be brought to students—of all levels and backgrounds—everywhere. (You can check out the book on Amazon.)
And so we are honored today to announce that the new book, The Active Series, is now available via Amazon. This comprehensive guide featuring Sharathji and his daughter, Shraddha Jois, includes:
- Detailed photos and descriptions of the more than 40 foundational poses
- Guidance on the essential role of breathing exercises and how to incorporate them into your practice
- Tips on how to turn the Active Series into a regular at-home routine that can deliver benefits in as little as 30 minutes
- Sharathji’s perspectives on the transformative benefits of yoga and why he created the Active Series
As Sharathji wrote in June 2024:
“This new series is not about attaining perfection; instead, it is about moving the body, breathing, and staying active and vibrant. We hope the Active Series will encourage many people to take up a personal yoga practice.”
In the coming months, we will be sharing much more information about the Active Series, including sample video tutorials, training opportunities for both teachers and students, and more.
But today we are blessed to share with you this exciting new book from the Parama-Yoga-Guru—Sharathji’s passion project to bring the brilliance of Ashtanga Yoga to everyone.
Whether you are a longtime Ashtanga practitioner or among those who have always been interested but just didn’t know where to start, The Active Series book has something for everyone. Check it out today on Amazon.
